"I have my life back!" - A year ago, Nina still needed a walking aid to get around. Now she spends hours climbing mountains - without pain, without limitations. Stories like this are what inspire us at med-plast to keep up the daily fight against lipedema.
We asked Nina, and she answered: read for yourself how she got her pain-free, happier life back!
How Did You Find Out You Had Lipedema?
I always knew my body was a bit different. But it wasn't until 2019 that I read a magazine article about a woman with lipedema - before that, I'd never even heard of the condition. That's when my own lipedema journey began, and just three weeks later I had my diagnosis.
Why Did You Decide to Have Lipedema Surgery?

I was in a lot of pain and had increasing problems with my mobility. The lipedema in my abdomen progressed quickly and led to breathing difficulties, which put a huge strain on me. That's why, in 2020, I decided to have my first surgery in Sweden, where my abdomen was treated. Shortly after, my knees started causing problems. My second surgery treated my knees and arms, but unfortunately wasn't successful. As a result, I quickly developed lipedema again - this time affecting my menisci as well as my knees. In 2022, I relied on a walking aid for six months and had my right meniscus operated on. In 2023, the same thing happened with my left knee. Once again, I needed a walking aid for several months. Fortunately, I then came across med-plast and decided to have my treatment and surgery with you.

How Has Your Life Changed Since Your Lipedema Surgeries?
I really got my life back! My pain is gone. I can be active again. For the last two years, I had to give up so much because of the pain and limited mobility. Now I can do everything again: mountain biking, stand-up paddleboarding, hiking, and sailing. Everything's pain-free again. I'm already looking forward to winter and skiing!
What Would You Recommend to Others With Lipedema?
If you have the chance to get surgery, I'd absolutely recommend it! Look into it and inform yourself thoroughly. Talking to others affected by lipedema is so important, but also listen to the facts from doctors. If you prepare well and take aftercare seriously after surgery, it's worth every bit of effort and every euro. I'm happy every single day. A huge thank-you to med-plast!
