When Did You Learn About Lipedema, and How Did the Diagnosis Change You?

I first heard about lipedema in 2020. A friend had just had her liposuction, and later I came across it through videos from Domino Kati. Eventually, an acquaintance recommended a doctor to me - and that's where I got my lipedema diagnosis.
On one hand, it was a relief to finally have certainty. On the other, I was shocked. My condition had noticeably worsened after I stopped taking the pill.

What Problems Did You Face in Everyday Life?

Heavy legs, stabbing pain, and bruising from the slightest touch defined my everyday life. For a long time, I thought that was simply normal - until I realized how much it was limiting my life. Climbing stairs, sightseeing on vacation, or even blow-drying my hair became agony. My job as a preschool teacher was also a strain, since carrying children often caused a lot of pain. Summer was especially hard: I didn't want to hide, but I felt very uncomfortable. Buying clothes was frustrating, since almost nothing fit.

How Did You Experience the Consultation at med-plast?

I had my first consultation while on vacation in Berlin. The atmosphere was completely different from a typical doctor's office - warm, understanding, and professional. I immediately felt taken seriously and well cared for.

How Has Your Life Changed Since Your Lipedema Surgery?

In total, I had four surgeries, in which 28 liters of diseased excess fat were removed. My body accomplished something remarkable in just seven months. Of course, healing takes time, but even now, my everyday life is so much easier, and many things that used to be difficult now come to me without pain.

Exercise is fun again - the first time I went jogging after the surgeries was an unforgettable moment. Something that used to be almost unthinkable - I could suddenly just run, without it hurting. I also have more energy in everyday life: walks, movement, and work all feel noticeably lighter.

Beyond the physical changes, my self-image has also improved enormously. I feel more comfortable, carry myself with more confidence, and have gained a new outlook on life, step by step.

What Was Your Experience at med-plast?

Choosing med-plast was the best decision I could have made. The entire team - from the front desk to the doctors to the nursing staff - was incredibly kind. The food was also excellent and nothing like a typical hospital.
